TAROT
Tarot cards are both beautiful and are a creative way to express yourself while doing a little fortune telling. These two cards are from the Rider-Waite deck and are about as standard as you get for tarot cards. There are thousands of diffrent kinds of decks ranging from The Witches Tarot to The Cat People to Astrological Sign decks. I would suggest starting with a simple deck like the Rider-Waite. Then move on to bigger and better when you get comfortable with reading tarot. You can get a deck at almost any good bookstore, Barnes & Noble, Walden Books, Media Play, ect. (If you like shopping online there is a GREAT store called Astroamerica that has just about every Tarot deck imagineable. Look for the address on my link page.) After you get the deck I would advise you do do a few things with it before you start doing readings for anyone. Get comfortable with the deck. Put it under your pillow for a few nights so that it absorbs some of your energy.

WARNING! You may not want anyone else to touch your deck! If you plan to do readings for others get a seperate deck. The people who touch the card leave their energy, and questions, and karma & might interfere with a reading just for you.

Readings
There are many books out there that will guide you on how to read tarot. In fact your deck most likely came with a guide. I can't, no more like I won't tell you how to read cards. I feel that readings must be done from your heart, or uncounsious. Not that it isn't a good idea to learn what diffrences there are between symbols. I definately sugjest that you do study before you start doing readings! But I soon found that if you pay attention and get to know the cards then you won't need to read the guide. You'll know what the cards mean. I will add a little "guide knowledge" if no one protests. As I've mentioned on other pages in this site this is just ment to be a personal reflection of what I've learned. You you have a diffrent feeling or experience in no way are either of them wrong, just diffrent.

BASICS

Now, lets move onto some basics. Most tarot decks consist of 78 cards, with four "suites" called the Minor Arcana and 21 cards that makes the Major Arcana.

The Major Arcana
The Major Arcana consists of what I call the "Issues Cards". These cards usuly represent a major issue, influence or person that is involved in the reading. For example the Justice card might mean a fair decision is being made, or wrongs done to the person you are reading to will soon be put right. The Minor Arcana usully represents many of the same things or issues but sometimes it's easier just to read the Major Arcana. It's much harder to confuse the meaning of of say The Lovers then it is to confuse the meaning of the 8 of Cups.

The Minor Arcana
The four suites, or Minor Arcana sort of resemble your everyday, blackjack kind of playing cards. A typical deck usully has the four suites broken into Pentacles, Cups, Wands, and Swords. Now, your deck might be something else but you will definately have something that resembles the four suites. In each suite you should have a Ace, Queen, King, Knight, Page cards and numbers

Pentacles
The Pentacles are often associated with worldly goods, esp. money, although some people relate the Pentacles to solely spiritual matters. I believe it depends on both who you are reading for and what the reading is about.

Swords
The Swords are for physical strength and for issues like honor, bravery, skill and sometimes aggression. Depending on the card in the suite it can also mean forcing or meeting a issue head-on.

Wands
The Wands are for issues of the intelect. The wands are for things like logic, senseability and sometimes peace. The Wands always remind me of the Roosevelt saying about "Speaking softly and carrying a big stick".

Cups
The Cups represent feeling, emotion and water. Sometimes the Cups also represent mixed emotions or unexpectedness. The Cups are like the sea, changeable but in some ways extremely constant.
